This scholarship supports high school seniors entering college in the upcoming fall semester who are the children or grandchildren of honorably discharged veterans or active military personnel, including members of the National Guard and Reserves. 

Eligibility:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be a child or grandchild of a United States Veteran (Honorably/General under Honorable Discharge) or Active Military.
  • Must be a high school senior, entering an eligible degree program at a 4-year accredited college or university (no postgraduate programs).
  • Must meet FAFSA/AMVETS regular student requirements.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Must not be in default on a federal student loan.
  • Must authorize AMVETS to publicize the scholarship award

Selection Process:

  • Phase One: Qualifications and academic excellence
  • Phase Two: Essay, merit, and volunteerism
  • Phase Three: Financial need and final scholar notification

Required Documents:

  • Veteran service proof (e.g., DD214 or current command letter)
  • High school transcript and diploma
  • FAFSA Submission Summary
  • College acceptance letter
  • Resume highlighting high school achievements and volunteerism
  • 400-500 word themed essay (theme listed in application)

Application Period: January - April 30

Notification: Recipients will be notified by email in late June/early July and publicly listed on the AMVETS website in August
