Sponsored by Vertol Systems Company, Inc., this scholarship will cover flight training costs toward a private pilot's license at Destin Flight Works in Destin, Florida. The scholarship, valued up to $10,000, will be applied toward instructor training and aircraft rental. Any additional expenses, including transportation and lodging, are the responsibility of the recipient.

This scholarship is open to current AFA members, and no prior flight experience is required.

Requirements:

  • Essay: Submit an essay of no more than 600 words explaining how this scholarship and obtaining a private pilot’s license will support your career or educational goals.

  • Transcript: If the applicant is a current or recent student, a transcript showing their GPA and area of study is required.

  • Age Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years old to fly solo and 17 years old to earn a private pilot certificate. There is no upper age limit.

  • Training Location: The scholarship is only valid for training at Destin Flight Works in Destin, Florida. The recipient must be able to begin training in 2023 and is responsible for their own travel and accommodations.

  • AFA Membership: Applicant must be a current AFA member.
