John Edelman is passionate about supporting education that enhances mental health for veterans and service members. He is offering five scholarships of $10,000 each to outstanding student veterans pursuing degrees and careers in mental health counseling through the John Edelman Scholars Program. This initiative is designed to recognize academic achievement and encourage further education in this critical field.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the John Edelman Scholars Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled, or planning to enroll, as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at a U.S. university for the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • Maintain a strong academic record.
  • Pursue a degree in a field related to mental health counseling, including but not limited to:
    • Psychology (all subfields)
    • Psychiatry
    • Social work
    • Behavioral health
  • Be a student veteran (including National Guard or Reserve members). This can be verified with a DD-214 and transcript, or for active duty members, Active Duty orders and a Memorandum of Understanding from the commanding officer.
  • Have an honorable discharge or be in good standing with their military branch.

Application Process:

Applicants must submit:

  • A current resume or CV
  • Unofficial transcripts from the current university
  • Two letters of reference from a professor, adviser, or supervisor
  • Responses to the following essay questions
  • DD-214 (or Active Duty orders and MOU)
  • Essay questions
