Children of the Fallen – Scholarship Overview
The Scholarship Foundation offers a guaranteed award of $30,000 over four years ($7,500 per year) to eligible children of:
Marines or Marine veterans whose parent was killed in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001
Marines, or Navy Corpsmen, Chaplains, or Religious Program Specialists attached to a Marine unit who were killed in combat, during a Department of Defense operation, training exercise, or domestic terrorist incident on or after September 11, 2001
Marines, Navy Corpsmen, Chaplains, or Religious Program Specialists attached to a Marine unit whose parent died by suicide due to combat-related Post-Traumatic Stress
Note: While applicants must meet standard eligibility requirements, the income eligibility requirement is waived for Children of the Fallen.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be the child or stepchild of one of the following:
A U.S. Marine (active duty, reserve, or veteran*)
A Marine who was killed while serving
A U.S. Navy Corpsman, Chaplain, or Religious Program Specialist (active duty, reserve, or veteran*) who served with or was attached to a Marine Corps unit or was killed while serving with a Marine Corps unit
Additional requirements:
Minimum 2.00 GPA
Demonstrated financial need (family AGI of $109,000 or less based on 2020 tax year)
Enrolled or planning to enroll at a college or university listed on the National Center for Education Statistics’ College Navigator website
Submit a completed application and all required documents by the stated deadline
*Veteran parent must have received an honorable discharge
Disqualifications
Applicants will not be eligible if:
The military parent or applicant veteran does not have an honorable discharge
The applicant already holds an undergraduate degree
The applicant is attending a Federal Service Academy or a school not listed on College Navigator
The military stepparent is no longer married to the applicant’s biological parent
