SGM Dawn Kilpatrick dedicated 20 years to serving in the Army before her life was cut short by a two-year battle with cervical cancer.
In her honor, the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs created a scholarship that continues her legacy, offering mid-level and senior noncommissioned officers with a primary MOS of 46Q, 46R, or 46Z the chance to compete for an educational scholarship grant. AUSA Membership is not required.
Applicants are required to embody "the Army's vision and demonstrate their ability to influence others in shaping future leaders."
As part of the application process, they must submit three key documents: a 1,000-word essay discussing the future of Army Public Affairs and the role of the NCO in shaping it; a letter of recommendation from their supervisor detailing how they exemplify the Army's vision, care for soldiers, and contribute to developing future leaders; and their enlisted record brief.
