According to the Fleet Reserve Association, "unmarried, dependent children of active or veteran Navy medical personnel who have served in the Marines" are eligible for the Benn Scholarship.
The scholarship was created in honor of Colonel Hazel Elizabeth Benn, USMC, one of the first active-duty female Marines who earned the rank of colonel and led Educational Services Branch of the Marine Corps.
When she died in 2004, the Colonel Elizabeth Benn United States Scholarship Fund was established through a trust of more than $100,000 within the FRA.
Qualified undergraduates entering their freshman or sophomore year of college are eligible.
